Allman Brothers Band Mobile, AL March 30, 1972 This was the first concert that I photographed. This moment had taken about six months to arrive. Since the September 16, 1971 Allman Brothers Band show at 'A Warehouse' in New Orleans, I had begun to want for something more lasting than ticket stubs and ever-fading memories. I had come close, on several occaisions, of taking my camera with me; but, it wasn't until I was almost in my car on March 30, 1972, going over to Mobile from New Orleans to see 'The Brothers', that I thought to go back inside and fetch my Pentax Spotmatic camera. I was mostly unprepared for the job at hand. My camera was loaded with 'Kodachrome 25' film and I had no working flash unit. Shooting speeds of 1/15-1/8 sec with the lens aperture opened fully, and a handheld camera, the results were dismal...but, it was a start! The start of a learning curve that, for much of the rest of 1972, would yield better results...but, not good enough yet. I began to want to be there to 'capture' images of the shows, not just 'take a picture'.
