The Classic Rock Allstars 'Border Bash' Augusta, Georgia September 9, 2007 This was to be my return engagement to amateur concert photography, after being away for many years. In the 1970's flash photography had begun falling out of favor, understanding the annoyance to the performers and promoters, as amateurs such as myself, shot multiple rolls of film. However, it seemed that eventually the restrictions evolved toward 'No Professional Cameras'; as was the case in several shows that I attended...I was either prevented from shooting (when noticed), or was to have my camera confiscated, until after the show. This had the effect of ceasing my work, for it completely took the joy out of it...but, with the glass half full, we sure had some good times. After nearly losing these photos, I had begun to pour over them more, realizing the purpose that I had originally intended...to have something more lasting from these shows. I researched for more info, trying to identify more 'unknowns' that I had captured, since having rediscovered the shots of a 19 Yr Old Stevie Vaughan from a 1974 Nightcrawlers show at The Warehouse. I also researched my personal favorite subject...Mike Pinera. I had more moments of capturing his energetic, animate expressions, than any other performer. He was part of a group called The Classic Rock Allstars, a group of four musicians from four different formerly well-known bands of the 60's, 70's, and even 80's. They were to perform in Augusta, Georgia. In recent years, having begun to enjoy the revisitation of these old images, I also had the desire to photograph again...and this was within striking distance! I drove down there on a Friday afternoon prior to the Georgia-South Carolina annual football game event, called 'Border Bash' in Augusta ,GA. It is an all-day event, extending into the evening music finale. It was a treat to be back capturing images again. I felt that perhaps the abilities that night, compared to that common saying about riding a bicycle...that it's a skill that you can always pick back up...Aaahhhmmm Hip!
